Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

The Pacman Nebula, NGC281, named for the video game character. It is an emission nebula and can be found in the constellation Cassiopeia. The nebula is located in the Perseus Arm of our Milky Way galaxy and is approximately 9200 light-years away and 48 light-years across. This is a false color image created using narrowband filters. The blue indicates the presence of oxygen while the orange and reddish colors indicate the presence of hydrogen and sulfur. The image was created using data provided to me by my friend and fellow amateur astrophotographer, Shaun Shelton, but the image was processed by myself.
I've always been interested in space and space exploration since I was a child. I grew up during the space shuttle era. The first mission, STS-1, was launched not long after I was born. I was always fascinated with what they were doing, where they were going and what they were going to see when they got there. When I turned nine, my parents bought me my first telescope. I actually still have it for sentimental reasons. It was an absolutely dreadful thing to use. I couldn't see anything other than fuzzy spots. Even the planets like Jupiter and Saturn were just fuzzy dots with no details at all. The only thing I could tell about either of them was that Jupiter was round and Saturn was oblong because of its rings. Which, ironically, is...
