pickup truck sits
in the farm pasture waiting
for the work day to begin...
This cool truck is either
a 1940 or 1941...
The fog is heavy
as the sun rises,
daybreak in the Smoky Mountains
of North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia... Many of these farms are located right at the tri-state border of the Appalachian Mountains.
The cows are already
having breakfast,
warming themselves
in the beams of sunlight
pouring through the tall trees
on the hillside above the fields.
The old fence encircles the farm
barns where the bulls
and calves are kept.
A misty fog floats
over the meadow at sunrise,
rich clay lit up by sunshine
in the early morning hours of Spring.
